A tragic incident has struck Zamfara State as a mining pit caved in at the Kadauri mining site, located in Maru Local Government Area. The collapse, which occurred on Thursday while artisanal miners were underground, has reportedly led to multiple fatalities.
Eyewitnesses from the community disclosed that at least 13 bodies have so far been pulled out from the debris, with several more miners feared to be trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue efforts are still ongoing as residents and local authorities race against time to save possible survivors.
Confirming the development, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Solid Minerals Development Agency, Nasiru Bamanga, said he had received preliminary reports of the disaster. He, however, noted that a comprehensive update would be provided after his scheduled visit to the scene.
“I heard about the incident, and I’m yet to get full details. I will be going there later today and, Insha Allah, I will give you full information when I return,” Bamanga stated.
